Fibroids & Ovarian Cysts
Uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts are among the most common gynaecological conditions. While many are asymptomatic and require only monitoring, some cause significant symptoms including pain, heavy bleeding, pressure symptoms and fertility issues that require medical or surgical intervention.
Uterine Fibroids
Fibroids are benign growths of the uterine muscle. Treatment depends on size, location, symptoms and reproductive plans. Options include watchful waiting, medical management with hormonal therapy, and surgical removal via myomectomy (laparoscopic or open) or hysterectomy when indicated.
Ovarian Cysts
Most ovarian cysts are functional and resolve spontaneously within a few cycles. Persistent, large or complex cysts require further evaluation with tumour markers and imaging. Surgical excision via laparoscopy is performed when clinically necessary, with careful attention to preserving ovarian tissue in women of reproductive age.
When to Consult
Seek evaluation if you experience heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain or pressure, difficulty conceiving, or if a cyst or fibroid has been incidentally discovered on imaging.
